Actors and married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie are set to star in the horror film “Together.” The feature comes from first-time writer/director Michael Shanks.
“Together” will explore “the horror of co-dependency told in a unique way,” with additional details being kept under wraps. Franco and Brie will also produce the film, alongside Picturestart, Tango, 1.21 and Princess Pictures. Tango, Picturestart and 30West are financing.
The real-life couple’s last collaboration, 2023’s “Somebody I Used to Know,” was the first film they co-wrote together, with Brie starring and Franco directing. The romantic comedy followed Brie’s character Ally, a TV producer who questions all of her life choices when she returns to her hometown and reunites with an ex-boyfriend.
Brie also starred in Franco’s 2020 directorial debut “The Rental,” a horror movie chronicling two couples who rent a vacation home for a celebratory weekend. They previously acted together in “The Little Hours” and “The Disaster Artist” in 2017.
“She’s a unique actor in the way that she’s able to balance heavy drama with moments of levity,” Franco told Variety in 2020 about working with Brie on “The Rental.” “And it was just so comforting for me to have her there through the process. As a first-time director, there were moments where I would get in my head and start to doubt myself. It was invaluable to have her there to build me up when I needed to be, and to remind me that we were doing good work.”
Brie can next be seen in Peacock’s limited series “Apples Never Fall,” starring alongside Annette Bening, Sam Neill and Jake Lacy. Franco was just seen in A24’s “Love Lies Bleeding” with Kristen Stewart, which premiered at Sundance on Jan. 20.
Shanks most recently wrote the thriller “Hotel Hotel Hotel Hotel,” which made the 2021 Blacklist. He will direct the film, with Adam McKay and Hyper Object Industries attached to produce.
Franco is represented by WME, Anonymous Content, and Felker, Toczek, Suddleson, Abramson, McGinnis, Ryan. Brie is represented by WME, Rise Management, and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern. Shanks is represented by Grandview, WME and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson McGinnis Ryan.
